Janice Trane Jones
Janice Trane Jones is a watercolor and oil painter currently residing in Cave Creek, Arizona. The artist started a renewed love of painting after having a successful career and raising a family. Janice received a BA in Social Anthropology and Archaeology and minor in art. Her hobbies include tennis, golf, fly fishing, gardening and racquetball.
Janice was honored to be accepted as the first Artist-in-Residence at Zion National Park during the fall of 2008. Janice won 3rd place in the “Wildlife” student division in Artist Magazine’s annual competition for 2009. She has also received numerous awards for her plein air competition oil paintings. Her most recent award was 2nd place at the Teton Plein Air Competition in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in June 2012. She has sold over 400 paintings that are in private and corporate collections around the globe including Australia, Italy, Japan, Canada, China, Bosnia, British Isles and Germany. Two paintings are in the permanent collection of Zion National Park.
Janice’s philosophy of art is when an individual views her art; she hopes they can identify with either the theme or the artistic endeavor. Realizing that everyone sees something different in a painting and it’s not always what the artist intended is a delight. She is also thrilled when one of her paintings brings back a fond memory for someone or creates a new dream. Art is fun to create but more fulfilling to provide entertainment or satisfaction for a patron or viewer.
The artist loves the diversity of the west from the deserts to the Rocky Mountains. To paint the open spaces and the people that live in those spaces is a treat every day.
